Corey Carnes and Mike Hellerstein own Ideal Image Management, the newest Adult talent agency on the block. They’re not your typical agency and strive to change the image and perception of the typical agent.

Q: What was your job (if any) and for whom did you work before you ventured into the adult business?

A: Mike: I have a background in mainstream entertainment and in Adult as a feature dancing and talent manager—I got my start with Lisa Ann.

Corey: My background is in club promotions and fashion. I got into Adult doing party promotions for studios.

Q: Why did you choose the adult industry as a career path?

A: Mike: I really like the industry and the people in it—there’s no other industry quite like it.

Corey: Mike pretty much sold me on being an agent. I was kind of over throwing parties and wanted to do something different in the agency.

Q: How do your family and friends feel about the way you are making a living?

A: Mike: My family supports me in everything I do, and even tells me what they think of the girls. I may have to bring my mom in as an agent.

Corey: Yes, my family knows, but I try and keep a low profile since I have kids.

Q: What or who is your inspiration for your career choice?

A: Mike: Going from mainstream to Adult seemed to be a logical progression. Being able to work along side Lisa Ann was inspirational, as well seeing how other agencies do business and how I could better.

Corey: From working with the studios and meeting Mike, I knew I wanted to work in this industry—there’s nothing like it.

Q: What makes you different from others that are doing what you do in this business?

A: Mike: We always answer our phones pretty much 24/7 and are always available—you’re not going to be put to voicemail unless we’re in a meeting. We’re not concerned about making money off a girl for a month or two—what matters is their careers in the long run. We realize that we work for our talent and not the other way around.

Q: Outside of the business how would you describe yourself and what do you like to do in your free time?

A: Mike: I spend a lot of time with my family and my dog, Brooklyn. I’m a huge Lakers fan and try to never miss a game. I work really hard, so enjoy my down time and I’m definitely not a partier.

Cory: When I’m not working, you can find me with my kids. Business is important, but family is what makes me happy.

Q: A lot of adult performers have and are participating in mainstream projects, do you feel this is helping shed some positive light on the adult industry?

A: Mike: This is great and we actually help our clients get mainstream projects. Eventually, they’re not going to be doing Adult and will want to try something else and mainstream projects are a great segway. We just hope our talent pick the right projects that show them in the best light.

Cory: I agree with Mike about mainstream being a great vehicle to further to promote talent. We’re actually getting quite a few calls about our talent, the girls especially, for mainstream projects.

Q: Do you feel the government regulation of the adult industry is unfair and a violation of our First Amendment? If so in what ways do you feel it’s wrong?

A: Mike: The government doesn’t really seem to regulate Adult very much. They seem more concerned about going after the industry when they can. Case in point would be John Stagliano’s federal trial. Now that the Democrats are in office, it doesn’t seem to be such an issue. Which is funny, since Republicans are probably the biggest porn watchers.
Cory: Anybody who wants to watch porn should be able to as long as they are 18.

Q: Much of society believes that being an adult entertainer is degrading to women. What would you say to these people?

A: Mike: I don’t know any woman that works in the industry would believes that—definitely a misconception on the general public’s part (or as we call them “civilians”) as far as I’m concerned.

Cory: Do people still really believe that? Seems kind of outdated to me.

Q: Economically times are difficult, what kind of impact if any is that having in the adult industry?

A: Cory: Yes, Adult has taken a hit, for sure. We’re not recession proof and tube sites are making it harder on the studios and legitimate sites. The tube sites are like how Napster was. They’re letting people have something for free that others have worked hard for. Hopefully, more studios and companies will go after these bit torrent sites, so we can get back to a booming business.

Q: What are you favorite charities and why?

A: Mike: I’m down for anything involving kids and animals. I like the Human Society a lot, because they offer a lot of programs and have a no-kill policy.

Cory: There are so many that are doing great things. I specifically like the AIDS Walk and a lot of Adult performers, directors and studios get involved. I’m thinking we might form a team for the next one in September.

Q: What advice would you give to others that are thinking of entering the adult business?

A: Mike: Think about what you are doing. This kind of stuff literally will go down on your permanent record and could keep you from getting a corporate job or running for government, well unless you’re Mary Carey. LOL It’s not something to enter into lightly.

Corey: We have girls who are brand new to the industry come in and some of them sign with us. We give them the whole picture of what it’s like to be in the industry so there’s no surprises. I think this might stop some girls when they get a reality check like this. But, other girls know what they want and where they’re going.
