GENEVA, Ill. A candidate for Kane County sheriff has returned a campaign donation after finding out it came from a strip club.
The Aurora Beacon-News reported that Republican sheriff’s candidate Kevin Williams received the $499 check from C.W. Dakota’s Eatery and Saloon, the corporate parent of Black Jack’s Gentleman’s Club near Elgin.
“At the time the check was accepted, there was no mention of Black Jack’s,” said Mark Vargas, Williams’ press secretary. “Once it was discovered where it came from, we immediately returned the check.”
Vargas said he did not know why the owners of the club wanted to donate to Williams’ campaign.
Williams is being challeged in the race by Democrat Pat Perez.
Sheriff Ken Ramsey, who did not seek reelection, resigned late last month and was replaced temporarily by undersheriff Michael Anderson.
