BOSTON — from www.boston.com – The man accused of killing an exotic dancer in Everett appeared in court Tuesday morning.
Antonio Marcos Ferreira, 38, is charged with murdering his ex-girlfriend, who prosecutors say he stabbed 33 times.
Family members and friends of 26-year-old Sheila dos Santos listened to details of her murder.
She was killed — allegedly at the hands of Ferreria, her ex-boyfriend — as she returned to her Everett home in the early-morning hours of Oct. 2. The prosecution said physical evidence implicates Ferreira.
“Search warrants were obtained and sneakers were obtained from the defendant’s residence. A DNA test showed that spot of blood on one of those sneakers matched Sheila dos Santos’ DNA,” prosecutor Adrienne Lynch said.
The prosecution also claims that traffic cameras show Ferreira — a Brazilian national, living in Somerville — leaving his home and then returning during the time frame of the murder. Officials said he was in the process of fleeing the country when he was arrested. Defense attorney John Haynes calls the prosecution’s case circumstantial evidence.
“He had simply been living out of his car,” defense attorney John Haynes said.
The victim’s two sisters attended the hearing, but declined to speak to reporters, but several of her friends described the exotic dancer as beautiful inside and out.
A not guilty plea was entered on the defendant’s behalf, and he was ordered held without bail.
