Florida bill seeks to curb ‘revenge porn’

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — A bill that has cleared a Florida House subcommittee would make it a crime to post nude photos on the web attached with personal identification information without the subject’s consent.

Rep. Tom Goodson, R-Titusville, [pictured] said Wednesday his bill aims to crack down on “revenge porn.” He says the issue was brought to his attention by the Brevard County sheriff, who told him of an increasing number of complaints.

The measure (HB 787) would create a felony offense for the non-consensual posting of nude photos or videos on websites along with the subject’s personal identification information. The penalty would be harsher if the victim is younger than 16.

The bill cleared the House Criminal Justice Subcommittee.

Goodson cited a recent survey indicating one in 10 people have threatened to expose risqué photos of their ex-partners online.
