from www.wafb.com – A Rankin County School District employee has been fired as the result of an investigation by the district and the Richland Police Department.
According to Rankin County District Attorney Michael Guest, Richland High School teacher Stacy Walker was arrested Monday afternoon and is accused of having sex with a student.
Richland police say 34-year-old Walker is charged with sexual battery by a person in a position of trust or authority. Police say the male student was 16 years old when the relationship started, and Walker has admitted to the accusations.
“Were just at the one student now,” says Richland Chief Russel James. “Maybe three counts. There’s always a possibility with this that other students may come forward.”
Detectives are investigating allegations involving other students, according to the police department.
“She did cooperate. She did admit that there was inappropriate contact with the student,” James said.
Walker was released from jail on $25,000 bond, according to Richland police. She will go before the Rankin County Grand Jury.
Stacy Walker is listed as an Algebra teacher, the boys’ head soccer coach and girls’ assistant soccer coach on her webpage, and on the Richland High School website.
The Rankin County School District said in a statement Tuesday “the safety of our students is the first priority of our District and we will not tolerate inappropriate behavior by any employee.”
The district said it can’t share the details of any personnel issue. The district’s policy is to immediately investigate any accusations made against an employee and ask law enforcement for assistance, according to the statement.
