from www.blog.al.com – HOOVER, Alabama – A former Spain Park High School teacher was arrested today after authorities say she had sex with a student in March and April.
Stephanie Suggs Millard, of Moody, is charged with engaging in a sex act with a student under the age of 19, said Hoover police spokesman Capt. Jim Coker. She is being held in the Hoover City Jail awaiting transfer to the Shelby County Jail. Her bond is set at $30,000.
Coker said the police department’s Family Services Division launched an investigation into Millard after they recently received information about her conduct while she was a teacher at the school. Investigators learned that Millard engaged in sex with a 17-year-old male student. The student has since graduated, and is attending college.
Alabama law makes it a Class B felony for any school employee to engage in sex acts with a student under the age of 19 years. Millard is charged with two counts of violating that law, Coker said.
Millard no longer works for the Hoover City Schools system. Spokesman Jason Gaston said she resigned Dec. 13. The 33-year-old former teacher surrendered to police today at 3:45 p.m.
