PHOENIX from www.wmbf.com – Nadya Suleman, the woman who gained international fame by giving birth to octuplets in January 2009, said the profits from an adult video she is peddling during a tour of the U.S. is intended to generate money to help her raise her 14 children.

Suleman, dubbed the “Octomom” by the media, agreed to an interview with CBS 5 Tuesday morning while she was in Phoenix to promote her video.

“I would be lying if I said it wasn’t for financial gain,” said Suleman, who is believed to be the second mother in the U.S. to successfully give birth to octuplets.

She said initially it was “unfathomable that I would do something like this,” but that over time, the need to provide for her children took precedence.

Suleman said she previously vowed that she would do anything short of porn to provide the financial means for her children, but that she now has to “eat her words” for doing the “more or less soft porn” video titled “Octomom: Home Alone.”

The 37-year-old Californian, who used in-vitro fertilization before the octuplets were born, has admitted to financial problems and said her children are her first priority.

“They take precedence,” she said. “It’s no one’s business how I live life, raise my children or generate revenue to raise my children.”

Suleman said the video is the first time she has done anything that sexual, though she recently performed at a Florida strip club. She said she was celibate for almost 14 years and doesn’t believe in premarital sex, and would not do porn where she would have to touch another person.

The Octomom also revealed her video performance left her feeling “empowered.”

Suleman has been the target of thousands of death threats, she said, and continues to desire some level of privacy for her children.

“My priority has always been my children,” she said. “There’s really nothing I won’t do to support them or care for them. Every good mom or dad can identify with that, providing for their safety, their well-being.”

Suleman said that while she feels she has to be the ultimate role model and that every choice she makes as an adult deeply affects the children for the rest of their lives, she has prepared for the questions they are sure to ask about her choice to do the video and the scrutiny that will come from people outside the family.

“Healthy open communication is really the way you give them the armor to protect themselves,” Suleman said. “You educate, you provide unconditional love and acceptance, and they will have the upper hand, the power if they know ahead of time if, God forbid, they do get teased or bullied. They will have that defense to stand their ground and be strong.”

She said she lives by the credo “what doesn’t kill us, makes us stronger.”

Suleman said she is also involved in several online ventures, and dabbling in “a lot of things, including music.”

“I’m pulling out strengths I never knew I possessed,” she said. “I’m in a very, very grateful place.”

Nadya Suleman is in the midst of a tour during which she will sign her first-ever adult DVD at a Castle Megastore in Phoenix on Tuesday night.

Suleman’s adult DVD debuted Monday.
