from www.bostonherald.com – To mark last week’s retirement of Rob Gronkowski’s favorite porn star Bibi Jones, we bring you the story of international porn princess Penny Flame, who also cooled on the XXX movie biz after a major wake-up call.
Bibi, 20, reported in her tearful online retirement video that her ah-ha moment came after reading “The Power of Now” by Eckhart Tolle. But Jennie Ketcham cooled on her career as Penny Flame in 2009 after becoming a disciple of addiction doc Drew Pinsky.
“Before I knew him, it was like he was a bobblehead,” said Jennie, who, after a few years struggling with occupational hazards such as casual sex, booze and drugs, signed up for stint on VH1’s “Sex Rehab with Dr. Drew.”
“Then I really got to know him and really got to experience his graciousness and generosity. Talk about a wonderful man. … I’m forever indebted to him,” Jennie said of Pinsky, who wrote her college recommendation letter.
In her new book, “I Am Jennie,” Ketcham chronicles her life in porn from answering an ad for “adult modeling” in the San Diego State University newspaper, through the ugly underbelly of the porn biz, to getting clean and sober and working as a restaurant hostess to pay her college tuition bills.
The ex-porn princess, now a straight-A student, hopes after graduation to become a counselor and help other troubled girls flee the XXX film industry.
“It’s hard to know who’s really emotionally struggling because you don’t know anybody’s (real) name,” Jennie said of the porn world. “You don’t know anything more than what they want you to know and what they bring to work.”
