from Lightning Rod, an “unauthorized sexual enhancement product” for men, has been removed from numerous sex shops in Metro Vancouver after Health Canada determined it contains an ingredient that may pose serious risk to people with heart or stroke problems.

The Lightning Rod capsules were taken off that shelves by the manufacturer, IT Erotics, at Hastings Novelty in Vancouver, Ultimate Amore in Burnaby, O! Behave in Surrey, and Source Adult locations in Coquitlam, Delta, Maple Ridge and Vancouver. It also was yanked from a store in Saskatchewan and one in Ontario.

In the advisory, Health Canada says it found hydroxythiohomosildenafil in the red pill, which is similar to sildenafil, a prescription drug for erectile dysfunction that’s only supposed to be used under the supervision of a doctor.

The red capsules go for about $6 a pop on many online stores, which claim the product is a herbal supplement that “helps increase sexual pleasure and maximize sexual performance.”

If you’ve taken one, Health Canada advises that you stop, and call your doctor if you experience any “adverse reaction.”
