Hollywood lore is full of compromised male sexuality. Burt Lancaster posed full balls naked for gay magazines. Tony Curtis in his [two] autobiographies admitted that he feigned interest in cock to land parts in movies.

Rumor had it that Errol Flynn and Tyrone Power licked sack and spread cheek, and it was the talk of the town about Randolph Scott and Cary Grant’s jockey shorts parties in Malibu.

But today in the LA Times Bret Easton Ellis pretty much admitted that he liked the cut of James Deen’s jib, and that’s what led to Dean getting the part in The Canyons.

I didn’t make this up. Ellis said it in an LA Times article www.adultfyi.com/read.php?ID=59397:

“[Braxton] Pope alerted Ellis to Deen (né: Brian Matthew Sevilla), a Pasadena-born college dropout who in addition to having twice won Adult Video News’ male performer of the year award and appearing in several thousand porn films, boasts an enthusiastic fan base of teenage girls. Infatuated with Deen, Ellis wrote the character of Christian with him in mind.

“He looked almost like a gay porn star, compared to heterosexual porn stars I remember in the ’70s and ’80s,” Ellis said. “He almost looked like a Twink. Thin, boyish, nice-looking Jewish kid with a nice smile. Not like one of these mastodons from old-school porn.”

A hetero guy would never make a comment like that. It’s also stated in the article that he-man director Paul Schrader wanted nothing to do with Deen, but it was Ellis who insisted that Deen was perfect for the role. Why is that, you ask?

What exactly did James Deen do to land the part?
