STOCKTON – from www.record.net- After 16 sessions spread over more than four months, the hearing over the 2012 firing of a Lincoln High School special-education teacher accused of operating pornographic websites on a district-owned laptop computer concluded Wednesday. A ruling by the three-member panel hearing the case could be weeks away.
Heidi Kaeslin, 37, is contesting her firing and seeking reinstatement by Lincoln Unified. The school district alleges she used a district-issued laptop to develop the websites over a span of at least 10 months beginning in fall 2010.
Kaeslin’s attorney, Tom Driscoll, argued Wednesday that his client’s involvement was short-lived, “minor and peripheral,” and has been “blown out of proportion” by the school district. Lincoln Unified’s attorney, Marleen Sacks, said Kaeslin damaged the school district’s reputation, showed poor judgment and a lack of “common sense” and is “incapable of remediation or improvement.”
The panel is expected to begin its deliberations today. Once a decision has been reached, it will have up to 30 days to release its written ruling. Regardless of the ruling, the losing side will have the option of appealing the case in San Joaquin County Superior Court
