History and Evolution of the TEAs

The Trans Erotica Awards, also known as the TEAs, celebrate accomplishments within the trans adult industry. The event began as an online competition and has since evolved into a two-day event that welcomes guests from around the world. The TEAs are now in their 16th year.

The event has a history of being held at the Avalon in Hollywood, California. For example, the Trans Erotic Awards were held at the Avalon from March 8 to March 10, 2024.

The 12th Annual Transgender Erotica Awards, recognizing transgender pornography from November 16, 2018, to October 1, 2019, were originally scheduled for March 15, 2020, at the Avalon Hollywood. Domino Presley was slated to host this event. However, due to legal advice following restrictions on events exceeding 250 people recommended by California Governor Gavin Newsom, the event was indefinitely postponed on March 12, 2020. It was later rescheduled and held online on grooby247.com on May 10, 2020.

Pre-nominations for the 12th TEAs were open from October 2 to October 16, 2019, allowing the public to suggest nominees through an online form. Nominees were announced on January 3, 2020, on the theteashow.com website, coinciding with the opening of fan voting. The eligibility period for the fan award was January 1 to December 31, 2019. Fan voting was open to all for the fan award, while site-specific awards were open to members of specific site forums who met criteria regarding the number of postings and membership date. The winners of the 12th TEAs were announced during a webcast on May 10, 2020.

Highlights from the 12th TEAs included a tie for Best Film between 'TransNasty' by Lena Kelly (Evil Angel) and 'Transfixed Vol 3' by Bree Mills (Adult Time). Lena Kelly received the most awards with three, while Natalie Mars and Daisy Taylor each received the most nominations with eight.
