Pink Visual releases first of its kind “white paper” on the mobile porn market

VAN NUYS, Calif. – Leading adult entertainment studio Pink Visual (www.pinkvisual.com) has released a white paper on the mobile adult entertainment market, covering data ranging from device market share to consumer adoption trends.

“In our dealings with media outlets, academics and researchers who are interested in gathering information on the adult entertainment industry, one of the complaints we’ve heard most often is that it is very hard to find solid, reliable information on the adult market,” said Lea Busick, Marketing Director for Pink Visual. “As a dominant company that combines porn and technology, our position in the adult mobile market and the amount of traffic our mobile properties receive, puts us in a position to collect and analyze a wealth of data, and this white paper shares our observations.”

Drawn from data collected from Pink Visual’s network of sites as well as from third-party sources, some of the report’s key conclusions include:

* Mobile browsing market share is a far more significant metric than device sales market share
* The Android operating system will greatly expand in market share in 2010
* The mobile market for adult entertainment is already substantial, and growing rapidly

The report largely attributes the initial rise of the North American market for mobile adult content, which lagged several years behind the European market, to the release of Apple’s iPhone in 2007.

“Apple’s flagship mobile device didn’t instantly create a viable North American market for mobile porn, but its features and functionality, along with savvy marketing on the part of its corporate progenitor, drew young adult users in droves,” the report states. “Given the long history of a close association between the emergence of new media technology and the use of that technology to consume erotica, it is no surprise that many of these young iPhone owners quickly began exploring the web in search of mobile-optimized pornography.”

Although devices using the Android OS are increasingly common in the Pink Visual mobile network’s traffic profile, the company reports that as of December, Apple devices still accounted for more than half the traffic to its mobile sites, with the iPod Touch and iPhone comprising 28% and 26%, respectively. Blackberry devices were third most common with a 14% share of the traffic, followed by Android (9%), the Playstation PSP (5%) and Windows mobile devices (4%).
