In LA, Money Talks: Moratorium on Porn Film Permits Unlikely with Possibility of Legal Reprisals

from www.nbclosangeles.com – AIDS activists went to Los Angeles City Hall on Friday to try to convince LA to stop issuing film permits to the porn industry, but by and large they were politely rebuffed.

Lawyer for the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, Brian Chase addressed the Council and accused the adult film industry of being “incapable of policing itself,” claiming the industry refuses to use condoms despite state and federal safety laws.

Chase’s plea was prompted by the report earlier in the week that an adult film actor had tested positive for the HIV virus.

In response to the news that a fellow porn performer positive test, adult film star Jenna Jameson told Radaronline.com that the industry is a “ticking time bomb,” even though her production company gave female performers the option of using condoms.

“I always told them that it was better to practice safe sex,” said Jameson to the entertainment news site. “Is one movie worth your life?”

Chase asked the council to issue a moratorium on film permits for producers of adult industry films until the industry complies with condom laws, but city councilman Richard Alarcon [pictured] warned that issuing such a moratorium could open up the city to a lawsuit.

“That’s not to say we’re not sensitive to the issues of HIV and the spread of HIV,” added Alarcon.

“It’s just to say to pull the permits for all the businesses when we could not say for sure they’re acting inappropriately, could cause some severe legal challenges that cost the taxpayers money.”

Adult Video News reported on its website that sources had identified the porn performer who allegedly tested positive for HIV as a “male performer who performed in both straight and gay adult videos.”
