Porn Valley- The most gratifying aspect of the documentary Naked Fame is that the subject, a gay porn star who wants to be a singer, really can sing.

Colton Ford — that’s his pornographic moniker — has a great voice. He also has a body with more ripples than the Mississippi and exhibitionist tendencies.

Perhaps most interesting of all, he has a positive, nurturing, monogamous relationship with another gay porn star, Blake Harper.

According to the loving couple, and the film’s press notes, these guys are phenomenal stars of the gay porn industry. I’m taking their word on that.

But I don’t have to take their word on Colton’s vocal ability. Or the cheesy-cutesy booty shaking he devises to go with his voice. Or the fact that the pair comes across as a truly committed couple. They clearly care about their health, their bodies and even the well-being of others.

When we meet Colton and Blake, they’re paying the bills by letting cameras record their every indoor action — everything from sex to sleeping — for a voyeur Web site. They pose naked for the camera one moment and, in the next breath, talk about something utterly mundane.

It’s what they do, but Colton really wants to sing (and Blake really wants to act). The film follows Colton’s experiences getting a recording deal, and the soap-opera-style wranglings behind that process.

It’s not your typical idea of an adult film actor. That’s a bizarre dichotomy worth exploring. Their relationship and their struggle for success seem so normal. The porno stardom plays like a surreal aspect to ordinary lives, an American Idol episode gone oddly awry.
