Pennsylvania- Jury selection began Tuesday in Luzerne County for a trial involving a murder that drew national attention. On trial is Harlow Cuadra. He’s accused of killing a rival gay porn producer from the Back Mountain.
One juror was chosen on Tuesday. Jury selection is scheduled to resume Wednesday morning at the courthouse in Wilkes-Barre.
Because of the public attention this case has received over the past two years, it could be days before a jury is chosen. Over 120 people have been called to jury duty. Out of that number, 12 jurors and four alternates will be chosen to decide the fate of the accused killer.
Authorities believe Cuadra, 27, and former partner Joseph Kerekes stabbed and slashed the throat of rival gay porn producer Bryan Kocis. Authorities say in addition to the killing, the pair set Kocis’ home in the Back Mountain on fire to cover up their alleged crimes near Dallas back in January 2007.
The two men from Virginia were eventually caught and proclaimed their innocence for months. This past December, there was a twist in the case.
Joseph Kerekes pleaded guilty to his role in the crime, telling authorities Cuadra was the killer. Now Kerekes will spend life in prison. As for Harlow Cuadra, his fate won’t be known until his murder trial.
Once jury selection is complete, opening statements will begin in Luzerne County court.
