Actor Owen Wilson Hospitalized, Treated for Wrist Wounds, Dehydration, Drug Overdose

LOS ANGELES — Actor Owen Wilson reportedly was hospitalized Sunday afternoon in Santa Monica, Calif., after being treated at his home by EMTs, according to the National Enquirer and Star magazine.

The tabloid publications claim Wilson was transported by ambulance to St. John’s Health Center after cutting his left wrist and taking an undetermined number of pills.

Wilson was discovered at his home by a family member who made the 911 call for help, the tabloids reported.

Entertainment Tonight reported that Wilson later was transferred to Bevery Hills’ Cedars-Sinai Hospital to undergo detoxification. Unnamed sources said Wilson was “dehydrated.”

The entertainment news Web site TMZ.com late Sunday reported that it had confirmed Owens had been taken to the hospital, but could not confirm his injuries or condition. The Web site published a statement attributed to the Santa Monica Police:

“On Sunday, Aug. 26, 2007, at 12:10 p.m., officers from the Santa Monica Police Department responded to a medical assistance call from the Santa Monica Fire Department at the 900 block of 23rd Street. The person was transported to a local hospital where they are being treated.”

TMZ.com reported that the 911 call came in to the Los Angeles Fire Department at 11:59 a.m.

Entertainment Tonight reported Wilson’s brother, Luke Wilson, was seen leaving Cedars Sinai Sunday night with their brother Andrew. The brothers reportedly drove off with an unidentified woman.

People Magazine reported the actor’s parents also visited him at the hospital.

Gossip Web site PerezHilton.com quoted National Enquirer editor-in-chief David Perel:

“Owen Wilson has now been transferred from St. John’s to another Los Angeles area hospital. His brothers Andrew and Luke are with him.

“Andrew found him after the suicide attempt and called an ambulance. Both of Owen’s wrists were slashed superficially and Owen had taken an overdose of pills.

“Owen was found with a nearly empty bottle of pills next to him. He was at his house in Santa Monica.”

Wilson, 38, was nominated for an Academy Award for his work on the screenplay “The Royal Tenenbaums.” He reportedly broke up with actress Kate Hudson around Memorial Day.

He got his big break in the 2000 comedy action hit “Shanghai Noon,” starring opposite martial arts star Jackie Chan.

He later co-starred with good friends Ben Stiller and Will Ferrell in the 2001 offbeat comedy “Zoolander.”

He got his dramatic break starring with Gene Hackman in the 2001 action film “Behind Enemy Lines.”

Wilson returned to making “buddy comedies” in 2002 with the release of “I Spy,” co-starred with Eddie Murphy.

He paired again with Chan in the 2003 hit “Shanghai Knights,” followed by another turn with Stiller in “Starsky & Hutch.”

Wilson’s biggest film success came in 2005, when he teamed with comedian Vince Vaughn in the smash hit “Wedding Crashers,” which grossed over $200 million in the U.S.

Last year, Wilson provided the voice for “Lightning McQueen” in the Disney/Pixar hit “Cars.”

He later played a supporting role, again with Stiller, in the hit “Night at the Museum.”
