Quebec youth-television channel VRAK.TV has pulled all reruns of programs featuring actor Jean-François Harrisson, who was charged Thursday with possessing and distributing child pornography.
“We are very cognizant of the seriousness of this situation, and all of our decisions are taken in the best interests of our viewers,” Marie Collin, VRAK.TV’s vice-president of communications and programming, said in a statement Friday.
The channel has also set up a dedicated public forum on its website, www.vrak.tv.com, for any young viewers who want to sound off on the subject of Harrisson and his arrest.
News of Harrison’s arrest Wednesday at his Hochelaga-Maisonneuve home – after an investigation in the United States produced evidence that led to charges being laid – has shocked Quebec’s tightly knit TV-production community.
Harrisson appeared in Montreal court Thursday and was released on $2,000 bail, and on several conditions, including that he not use a computer.
