Adult magazine shoplifter nabbed

ANDERSON, South Carolina — Anderson City Police nab a 34-year-old man accused of shoplifting about $1,500 in adult magazines from a local Plez U convenience store.

Joe Fowler, who was captured on video in late August as he stuffed some of the magazines down the front of his pants, heard the accusations against him during an appearance on Monday in Anderson Municipal Court.

A judge ordered a $5,000 surety bond and a no trespass order to keep Mr. Fowler from returning to the Williamston Road store.

“The arresting officer said I would get a personal recognizance bond,” Mr. Fowler said. “I have no other way to get out. No property, no nothing.”

The judge was sympathetic, lowering the threshold to a $2,500 property bond.
