Virginia- A Staunton grand jury indicted the owner of a local adult video business and his company on eight felony obscenity charges Thursday.
Rick Krial, the owner of After Hours Video on Springhill Road in Staunton, and his company, were charged on four felony counts each.
Krial and the company also were indicted on misdemeanor charges, Staunton Commonwealth’s Attorney Ray Robertson said.
The charges came after the grand jury spent part of the day viewing videos obtained last month from the store by undercover state and local police.
Robertson said if Krial is convicted on any of the felony charges, he could face up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
Krial could not be reached for comment Thursday.
Robertson announced three weeks ago that he was prepared to present obscenity cases to a grand jury in connection with the opening of the After Hours store.
At the time, Robertson said he would let the grand jury decide if the videos met the state standard of obscenity that includes having a prurient interest in sex as the dominant theme and lacking any “serious literary, artistic, political or scientific value.”
Robertson declined to comment on the charges. He said the next step is to arrest Krial and have him appear in court. A trial date then would be set.
