HUNTSVILLE, Alabama — from www.al.com – Huntsville’s Pleasures adult store is bringing back a unique Valentine’s Day promotion aimed at getting guns off the streets.
During Saturday’s second annual “Guns for Toys” event, the University Drive business says customers who trade in used guns will receive “romance inspiring gifts” of equal value.
A licensed gun dealer will be at Pleasures from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. to assess the value and condition of firearms offered for trade. Guns found to have been used in a crime will be handed over to the authorities; others will be disassembled and sold to a parts dealer.
Proceeds will benefit the victims of violent crimes through the Huntsville Fallen Officers Memorial Charity.
“This is my contribution to making love, not war, here in Alabama — where guns are legal and adult toys are not,” said Pleasures owner Sherri Williams [pictured]. “Last year was successful, and this year our goal will be to take another 100 guns off the streets.”
Located at 4008 University Drive, Pleasures made national headlines in late 2010 when it opened three drive-through lanes for sex toys. Items are placed in brown paper bags and handed over to customers via the drive-thru drawer.
Williams opened the “one-stop romance shop” in June 1993. Pleasures now includes 7,000 square feet of retail space and an adjoining lingerie store, Diva Seductive Clothing.
