KITTERY, Maine – Amazing.net has removed the doors to its private adult video viewing booths in an attempt to comply with a newly enacted local ordinance.
According to Town Attorney Duncan McEachern, Amazing.net’s parent company, Capital Video Corporation told him Thursday that the booths were no longer in use.
The company has also filed an application with the town for a viewing booth license, a requirement under the new ordinance.
After hearing complaints from neighbors about suspicious activity and finding sex- related trash, the Town Council passed an ordinance banning doors or curtains on video viewing booths this winter. Just days before the deadline for the store to comply, the company filed suit, saying the law violated its constitutional rights.
The company filed a temporary restraining order in an attempt to keep the town from enforcing the ordinance, but the request was turned down last week.
“We’ve been able to confirm the booths have not been in service since … shortly after the court issued its decision,” said McEachern.
McEachern said lawyers from the company gave no indication a pending lawsuit against the town would now be dropped.
