Chicago- Former NBA standout Michael Jordan and his wife, Juanita, divorced Friday, an action they described as mutual and amicable, after 17 years of marriage.
In a judgment entered in Lake County Circuit Court, the couple said they had not lived together since February and cited irreconcilable differences as the cause of the breakup. Juanita Jordan lives in Highland Park and Michael Jordan in Chicago.
The couple retains joint custody of their three children, ages 14, 16, and 18.
The judgment also mentions an agreement the couple reached on division of property, child support, parenting time and other issues. By special request, the details were not disclosed.
The court waived a requirement that the Jordans attend parenting education program classes because their celebrity status might disrupt the class and to avoid undue public attention to the children’s private lives. Also waived was the statutory two-year separation for the couple.
Juanita Jordan filed for divorce in January 2002, but withdrew her petition a month later when she and her husband announced they were attempting a reconciliation.
Michael Jordan became part owner of the Charlotte Bobcats earlier this year. He led the Bulls to six NBA titles and was a five-time league MVP.
