from www.examiner.com – Photographer Deborah Anderson succeeded and failed at her “Aroused” documentary project according to the LA Times on Thursday, and it all boils down to the fact that the “world’s most sexualized women” shown in the documentary appear to be being marketed more for further exploitation rather than rescued from their unhealthy career choice the Times posits.

Art book erotica author Anderson got the inspiration of creating a documentary about women in porn during a photo shoot in which 16 of the leading porn actresses were to be featured. Some of those actresses are Kayden Kross, Belladonna and Lisa Ann, according to IMDb.

Unfortunately, the film showcasing the adult film stars fails to deliver much more than a cleaned up advertising version of the women and their daily jobs per the Times’ Entertainment writer Sheri Linden. But IMDb bills the film as merely a look at the making of a “fine-art photography” book anyway.

The film that examines the lives of porn stars will be in select theaters on Thursday and is available as an iTune download, according to MyFOXLa.com, and many of the film star actresses showcased in the project were in attendance for the premier held at the Landmark Theater in California on Wednesday evening.

Other “actresses” appearing in the production include Katsuni (playing a character called Katsumi), Teagan Presley, Ash Hollywood, Misty Stone, Tanya Tate, Asphyxia Noir and Jesse Jane. In addition, Francesca Le’, Lexi Belle, April O’Neil, Brooklyn Lee, Allie Haze and Alexis Texas also appear, playing themselves.

The “coffee-table book” containing photos of the adult film business’ actresses during their photo-shoot with photographer Anderson was available for purchase and autograph after the event, and it is available on Amazon.com for the cost of an expensive hotel room for one night: $250.00.

The book is more like a Hugh Hefner Playboy magazine gone hardcover, however, showing the 16 female subjects “in nothing but Jimmy Choo shoes,” according to the Amazon description provided, so don’t think this is a serious look into the lives of the women depicted in the film.

And that’s why LA Times writer Sheri Linden took such issue with the film, which may have clothed the participants, but it did nothing to highlight the devastating impact of the porn industry on women as a gender. Instead, it appears to be a savvy way to market them more.

And that’s a disappointment to those who wish to see women emancipated from such sexual bondage in this day and age, not to mention the risk of sexually transmitted diseases that are rampant in that field–and which all 16 porn stars involved say they have experienced.
