Porn Valley- The Arrow Productions, www.xxxdeepthroat.com Deep Throat car goes on the road next week. The yellow 1974 convertible that raised many eyebrows at AEE pulls into New Beginnings’ new factory outlet store in Sylmar on February 9.
The original plans were to open the entire warehouse to the public. But after thinking about security issues, the opening ceremonies will be relegated to the showroom floor. In any event, New Sensations will be offering what’s billed as the largest selection of adult items in the world all available at one location.
“This is the 35th anniversary Deep Throat car,” explains Paul Interlandi of Arrow. “It’s the 35th anniversary of Deep Throat.”
The car was debuted at AEE and it sounds like it’s got a few miles ahead of it judging by the early promotonal junket Interlandi’s outlining.
“The reason why this is the official car is it’s yellow and the oold school Deep Throat poster had a yellow background,” explains Interlandi. “And that worked out good for us. There’s two original posters- there’s the one that came out the first week. And then when the movie was a hit, they redesigned the poster and it was Linda [Lovelace] sitting at the pool with her arms up. That’s the poster we’re using on the car.”
I’m being a smart ass and ask Interlandi why the decision wasn’t to go with a ’72 Vette, the year Deep Throat came out.
“Because we didn’t own one,” Interlandi answers simply, noting that he’s the car’s owner and before now has never been photographed the way it has been.
“I’ve been to a lot of shows and won trophies before with this car, but this is really different,” Interlandi continues. Interlandi keeps the car in Vegas and in instances such as this will trailer his wheels out here.
“Otherwise it would be brutal on the paintjob,” says Interlandi who keeps the machine in pristeen condition.
According to Interlandi, the car will also be entered in the gamblers’ classic car show in Laughlin, Nevada on March 9 through 11.
“And we’re talking about taking it to Miami for Exotica Miami. It’s going to be during spring break and a lot of guys will be there. It’ll probably be really popular.”
Interlandi bought the car in 1988.
“And we pretty much restored it back to original shape- except for now with the big Deep Throat stuff we have all over it,” he laughs. “We’re also working on some other show cars that will promote our movies. So look forward to seeing a Debbie Does Dallas car and maybe an Italian Stallion car.
“We’re also in the process of restoring [Arrow owner] Ray Pistol’s ’55 Chevy Bel Air convertible. When we get it done, we might turn it into the Arrowmobile. So instead of featuring one movie, we’ll feature our Golden Oldies. We’re happy with our sales, they’re consistent and that allows us to plan.
“The marketing of the car also ties in with what we’re doing with the costumes, T-shirts and snowboards,” Interlandi continues. “One thing we can offer with the autombile is the ability to bring the car to grand openings, to large chains and promote the line.”
I suggest that Interlandi may have to be on the lookout for Harry Reems and Linda Lovelave lookalikes. He says the idea’s not too farfethched.
“We are talking about making mannequins- kind of like wax figures of our characters,” he states. “That’s actually in the works and currently we have a lifelike statue of Marlyn Monroe in front of the Talk of the Town [Pistol’s store]with the dress blowing up. It’s a huge tourist attraction and we have people stopping all day long to have their picture taken with Marilyn Monroe. Using that as a guide, we know that Harry Reems, Linda Lovelace and Bambi Woods statues would be popular.”
