Assemblyman’s Website Goes Porn for a Day

ALBANY, NY – Voters typing in garyfinch.com Wednesday night got porn instead of political updates. Finch is running for re-election in the 123th Assembly District, but assembled on his website were pictures of naked women taking pornographic positions on various state issues. An incredible irony considering that Finch is noted for clean-cut values and American pie policy.

“All of a sudden, the site came up and it was not our regular website with the links, but the porn site,” said Finch.

The original site, run by D-Artist Web Designs, was shut down a couple of weeks ago for maintenance. When it came time to go back online, the Assemblyman was told his site couldn’t be found. Instead, one was discovered with pornographic pictures and links with no reference to the Assemblyman except his long-lost campaign web address.

Finch told staffers to call State Police.

“I think anyone would certainly feel violated. It is almost like someone going into your home. Your name is a particularly precious thing. It is the only thing we truly own, I guess, is our good name and our reputation,” said Finch.

Finch also sees himself as a public figure who has chosen to put himself in the spotlight. His real concern is with those people who choose to lead private lives – families with their own websites or schools.

“This whole industry needs to be regulated. There are issues of privacy and rights of individuals. As a public individual I know that I don’t have the privacy rights of many people. But, there are people out there that can be violated and they do have some rights and we need to protect them as well,” he said.

His constituents share those concerns.

“It is a big deal around here. Because there are kids in school trying to look up stuff about politics and instead they’re finding pornographic videos…parents are trying to keep them away from that and put blocks on their computers as it is,” said Auburn resident Christina Phillips.

The case has been passed on to the New York State Police Cyber Terrorism Unit. In the meantime, Finch is conducting his own investigation into the law. While he hopes the whole incident is just a fluke, the Assemblyman may call for better regulation of the online industry in order to protect private individuals.

“This is clearly a case where technology has gotten ahead of the law. Things are happening now so quickly that we can’t even regulate them anymore because we don’t even know where they’re going,” said Finch.

Assemblyman Finch’s campaign now has an alternate website set up for voters to get information.
