Strippers can do very well on their on as far as getting into prostitution, thank you.
from www.torontosun.com – The mugshots of dozens of suspected pimps are being circulated across Ontario to 10,000 dancers at 115 strip clubs to help prevent them from being lured into prostitution.
The rogues’ gallery, put together by Peel police, was made available to club owners this month.
The owners are working with police and plan to put the photos on a poster that would be placed inside their front doors for security staff to scan.
Peel Sgt. Zeke Shah said the photos are for use by club staff and not for publication.
“The intention was for owners to keep their staff safe,” he said Wednesday. “They were given to owners so they can protect their staff.”
The suspects, including a woman, have been charged and some have been convicted while others are still before the courts, he said.
Tim Lambrinos, of the Adult Entertainment Association of Canada, said dancers who recognize a suspect can contact his group and a report will be filed with police.
“People are excited about the poster,” he said.
The dancers will get training on what to do when they see a pimp, Lambrinos said.
The clubs have been accused by federal Public Safety Minister Vic Toews of being hubs for human trafficking.
Conservative MP Joy Smith, of Kildonan-St. Paul, said some human trafficking is homegrown.
“The trafficking that occurs in Canada often involves Canadian women and children, especially from First Nations communities,” she said by e-mail on Wednesday.
“This is echoed by Canadian law enforcement who have been diligently trying to shed light on the forms of modern day slavery that occur.”
Many of the international victims of sex trafficking and forced labour arrive here through legitimate visa-exempt programs like those for temporary foreign workers and live-in caregivers, she said.
“Human trafficking is a serious abuse of human rights that demands the immediate attention of Canadians,” Smith said.
“We have a duty to rescue and restore the victims and prosecute the offenders.”
