Big Daddy’s Fends Off Stripper Controversy

Bowling Green, Kentucky- The Forest Park Sunrisers Neighborhood Association is hoping to put Big Daddy’s Bar & Grill out of business – permanently.

One Neighborhood Watch member, who wishes to remain anonymous, said since the restaurant opened on Old Morgantown Road, mailboxes have being knocked over.

But that is just the beginning of problems.

“We had more traffic, more drunks going down the street, more arrests. There’s been lots of arrests made,” said the anonymous neighbor.

Now, the new owner of the restaurant is looking to add alcohol back to the menu, and his move to bring back liquor is creating an even bigger uproar.

Big Daddy’s owner Charles Shourds told WBKO he simply wants to re-apply for the same liquor license that the restaurant’s previous owners had. He said he can’t understand why he’s catching so much flack from those who live near the restaurant. The original liquor license held by former owner Ricky Tittle expired at the end of April and called for alcohol sales as part of a sports bar.

The unidentified Catherine Drive resident also told WBKO she’s heard that Shourds has split up the building and is planning to add adult entertainment.

“We’ve been told that they were putting a partition in the back of that bar and getting it ready for a nudity thing,” she said.

Three weeks ago Big Daddy’s Bar & Grill was given an inspection as part of the process to re-instate the business’s liquor license. During the inspection, a pole believed to be used for exotic dancing was found, which neighbors say is a big no-no. Shourds also disputed this claim to WBKO.

Shourds said there is no pole, no D.J. booth or anything else in his establishment that would suggest adult entertainment.

WBKO was allowed into the front room of Big Daddy’s but was not allowed inside the room in question because of current construction.

There’s also concern among community members that there should not be alcohol or adult entertainment allowed with four churches and Dishman-McGinnis Elementary School only a couple of blocks away.

Shourds told WBKO that while he was once in the adult entertainment business as the owner of Dancing Women and Uncle Sam’s, he has no desire to ever return to that business.
