from www.christianpost.com – George Soros, financier and billionaire, is being sued by Adriana Ferreyr, his ex-girlfriend and Brazilian former soap opera star, for failing to make good on a promise to buy her an apartment.

Ferreyr brought the dispute to New York Supreme Court for $50 million after she said the 80-year-old billionaire gave an apartment that he promised her to another woman, Reuters reported.

“Soros not only breached his multiple promises, which were reasonably relied upon by Ferreyr to her detriment, but he also proceeded to engage in a deliberate and malicious campaign of extreme and outrageous harassment and intimidation against Ferreyr, which has directly resulted in her suffering and continuing to suffer severe emotional distress and damages,” her suit stated according to New York Times reports.

The Ferreyr suit claims that she spent months looking for a place to live, hiring brokers and designers in the process.

The pair endured a tumultuous relationship that began in 2006. By 2009, Ferreyr said a serious relationship developed in which she was promised an apartment close to $2 million on the Upper East Side of New York City, The New York Times reports.

Soros signed a contract for the apartment in 2010, resulting in Ferreyr hiring a designer. However, he broke up with her soon after and told her that he would give the residence to another woman he called his girlfriend, according to the lawsuit.

Soon after, a fight ensued and Ferreyr alleges that the billionaire physically abused her. Despite Ferreyr’s account in her lawsuit, Soros’ lawyers denied the claims and said she is after nothing more than his money.

William Zabel, a lawyer for Soros, called the lawsuit “frivolous and entirely without merit.” He said Soros did not have an exclusive relationship with the woman and denied physical abuse taking place.

“The complaint is riddled with false charges and is obviously an attempt to extract money from my client, who is a very wealthy man,” Zabel said.

Jilted lover Adriana Ferreyr, a Brazilian soap opera star, alleges Soros, 80, gifted the luxe digs to a new sweetheart after they had a falling out around the time of the closing, both sides said.

“This is a blatant attempt to shake down George Soros,” said Michael Vachon, a spokesman for the philanthropist and famed investor. “The lawsuit is frivolous and completely without merit.”

Meanwhile, a gal pal of the actress countered that Soros swore he would buy his on-again, off-again lovebird a place in the city — and then reneged after she spent the shoe leather to find it.

“I don’t think what he did was fair,” said Selma Fonseca, 45. “She did all the leg work finding the place and then he tossed her aside. You don’t do that to somebody and especially someone you have been with for five years. It’s disrespectful.”

The May-December lovebirds, who met at a Manhattan charity soiree, hit the rocks recently over something trivial that quickly mushroomed into a full-fledged “War of the Roses,” Fonseca said.

The suit, filed in Manhattan Supreme Court, alleges things got so bad, Soros slapped the Columbia University student during a tiff.

“That is totally untrue and a fabrication,” countered Vachon regarding the violence. “This is obviously nothing more than an attempt to extract money from a wealthy man, who has done so much for the community.”

Reached Wednesday night, Ferreyr, said, “It’s a private matter for me. I’m really busy with my schoolwork and am trying to focus on that.”

The suit seeks $50 million in damages, according to a source who has read the complaint.

“It’s 1/7000th of his wealth,” said Ferreyr’s lawyer. “She just wants what he promised her.”
