BILOXI, Mississippi — Anyone hoping to open an adult oriented business in Biloxi must put those plans on hold for now.
Biloxi already regulates where adult oriented business can locate in relation to schools and churches. Tuesday, the council approved a moratorium on any new adult stores.
Ward 5 Councilman Tom Wall said during the development of the city’s comprehensive plan a few years ago, the city mistakenly gave approval power of such businesses to the community development department. Wall said decisions like that should rest with the council.
“We did not intend for that to happen with adult, x-rated that sort of thing. So we want to take a look at that ordinance again and possibly do some amendments to it. That’s why we put a moratorium on it, to give us a chance to redo that ordinance,” Wall told WLOX News.
Wall said he expects the moratorium to last 60 days. The resolution does not impact existing adult oriented businesses.
