Poker on Television: A Brief History

Poker television programs have been extremely popular, especially in North America and Europe, following the poker boom. This has especially become the case since the invention of the "pocket cam" in 1997 (and its first use in the United States in 2002), which allows viewers at home to see each player's hole cards.

However, viewership has been declining dramatically in recent years, due to laws that restricted online play in the United States. Poker has been appearing on television somewhat regularly since the late-1970s, with CBS starting to air the final table of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event as an annual one-hour show around this time.

ESPN later took over the coverage, which was initially less than robust because viewers at home could not see what cards the players had or follow their progress visually through graphics. The hole cam was patented by WSOP bracelet winner Henry Orenstein and first used in the Late Night Poker television series in 1997.

Hustler Casino Live Moves Million Dollar Game to WSOP

Hustler Casino Live has canceled its Million Dollar Game in May, but the show will take place at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas instead. The Milly Game, a $1 million minimum buy-in cash game, is scheduled for June 12 and will be livestreamed next to the WSOP feature tables during what is being labeled "WSOP High Stakes Live," and it is being sponsored by GGPoker.

The Million Dollar Game has become the biggest and most anticipated annual livestreamed cash game in the world. It first ran in 2023, and has brought out some of the biggest names in the game such as Tom Dwan, Alan Keating, and Doug Polk.

WSOP High Stakes Live Schedule

The Million Dollar Game is not the only Hustler Casino Live stream to run during the Las Vegas road trip. Other streams will take place on June 5, 6, 13, 19, and 20. The lineup for these events has not been finalized yet.
