CHATSWORTH, Calif. - The adult industry has wanted to cross over into the mainstream? It just did. It was only a matter of time, but it's Cal/OSHA who has crossed over, and in the process, has placed the adult industry under its jurisdiction.
The first order of business was to slap TT Boy's Companies- Evasive Angles and TTB Productions with fines amounting to over $30,000. Citing violations of health and safety regulations stemming from the HIV crisis earlier this year, Cal/OSHA levied the fines relating to the exposure of three performers to HIV.
The citations make it clear that adult talent will be considered employees and not contract employees and that the adult industry will now be subject to the same rules and regulations governing mainstream businesses.
"Employers in the adult film industry must know how to protect their employees from health and safety hazards and understand the consequences of failing to comply with state regulations," said Vicky Heza, Cal/OSHA's deputy chief of enforcement. Heza had testified at a public hearing called by Assemblymember Paul Koretz in June which addressed those issues.
Cal/OSHA has created a new page on their Website addressing the groundbreaking citations. http://www.dir.ca.gov/DOSH/AdultFilmIndustry.html#hh
