Christians Witness Against Porn Shop

posted on American Daily.com: When Executive of the Greater Manchester CT Chamber of Commerce, I organized Citizens Against Pornography (CAP). That was back in the late 1960s when adult book stores were just starting to open in America.

We Christians kept watch on the public sidewalk on Main Street. There we were with our signs and payers – daily. We also approached the young manager of the store. We gave him home-baked cookies and cakes. We also provided him with a copy of the Bible. We shook his hand and assured him of our prayers for his personal salvation.

One Saturday he needed a ride to the southern part of the state to see his girl friend. I told him I would drive him there. It was my pleasure. Along the way we developed a genuine friendship.

After all, we believers did not hate anyone. We in fact loved the soul of the manager of the store. We wanted him to realize that he could know Jesus Christ as Friend and also find that Friend locating him another job by which to make a living.

The campaign against that pornography shop and for the soul of that friend continued for over a year. The Hartford Courant and Hartford Times as well as the Manchester Evening Herald gave on-going coverage of our testimony for biblical truth in holiness. It was quite the experience.

The pornography store eventually shut down. Now there is an evangelical church in its place along with some other retail stores in good standing with the downtown business district.

Now believers in Jackson County, Indiana, are waging the same war against evil. They are praying that the local pornography outlet will be closed, according to AgapePress’ Allie Martin via http://headlines.agapepress.org/archive/5/afa/302006d.asp

“The Lion’s Den is an adult bookstore that was opened in Uniontown, Indiana, just off Interstate 65 eight months ago. Ever since, protesters have been outside the store around the clock, taking pictures of customers and placing some of the photos on the Internet.

“It’s all part of an effort by a group called ‘War-Line,’ which runs the website. Rob Patterson, a member of the Christian activist group, says he and his fellow protesters have declared war on porn in their community.

“‘These people said, “We’re drawing the line. It’s not going to happen here,”‘” the Indiana man says. And as a result, he adds, ‘Some of these Lion’s Den’s have already closed. I think there are about four or five that have closed in the past couple of years.'”

When Christians do something for God in fighting the devil, they always want to accent the gospel message of Jesus Christ. Those bound by pornography are caged in by Satan. They need the Savior’s release through the Holy Spirit’s dynamo over the devil.

“Patterson points out that the demonstrations outside the porn store have created unexpected opportunities to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with the customers who come by. ‘When people come, sometimes they get mad at us,’ he admits. ‘But if they stop and talk to us, we’re able to witness to them, and many of them come under some sort of conviction,’ he says. ‘And some get saved.'”

“Meanwhile, Jackson County’s commissioners are working with the American Family Association Center for Law and Policy to craft ordinances that would ban such sexually-oriented businesses.”

These are glorious times in which to stand up for the eternal verities.
