COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- The state's top elections official says a group representing strip club owners and dancers failed to collect enough valid signatures for a proposed ballot issue.
The Vote No on Issue 1 Campaign wants to give voters a chance to overturn a law that prohibits patrons from touching strippers and halts nude dancing after midnight.
Supporters turned in 125,430 valid signatures from registered voters.
But Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner says the group needed at least 241,366 to place the issue on the November ballot.
Under state law, petitioners have 10 days to submit additional signatures to make up the deficiency.
Group spokeswoman Sandy Theis says the group is still collecting signatures.
