HAMILTON – A Cincinnati-based anti-pornography group has launched the second in a multi-phased campaign aimed at ridding Butler County of pornographic materials and sexually oriented businesses.
Letters were mailed to 6,000 Butler County households during the past week urging residents to join the Citizens for Community Values in its renewed local campaign.
‘Right now we’re focusing on community education efforts,” CCV President Phil Burress said. “We’re not focusing on law enforcement issues just yet.”
Rather, the CCV is urging residents to boycott stores that sell adult materials and hotels that offer guests the option of viewing pornographic films in their rooms.
“This campaign is about reclaiming Butler County for the family,” Burress said.
In its letter to residents, CCV notes there are more than 350 registered sexual offenders in Butler County.
The letter also claims that during the past six years in Butler County, the number of retail outlets distributing sexually explicit, hard-core materials has increased by 58 percent.
The CCV officially launched its campaign with a town meeting held last month at the Princeton Pike Church of God in Fairfield Twp.
Since then, Burress said CCV had received numerous inquiries from residents interested in helping out with the campaign and offering letter-writing and telephone calling services.
“What’s been the most surprising to those we’ve heard from is the fact that they had no idea we had so many hotels distributing pornographic materials,” Burress said.
“While our focus right now is simply education, our next phase will involve directly targeting hotels,” Burress said.
The recent mass mailing contains a listing of convenience stores, hotels and video stores CCV is urging people to boycott.
The group also included a list of “clean” hotels and motels in Butler County that do not offer adult movies.
