College Students Paid $500 to Fuck

PLATTSBURGH, NY- – A fellow college student told Plattsburgh State senior Jimmy O’Neill about a year ago that he was going to star in a porn film.

O’Neill thought about heading over to the location to watch, but he was at another party and questioned the truthfulness of what he had been told.

But it indeed happened, and many Plattsburgh State students this week watched a two-minute trailer of the feature-length film, which shows a sex party involving female porn stars and male Plattsburgh State students, some of whom are still attending the college. The video is available for sale on the Internet.

“I wouldn’t appear in it, but I think it is fantastic,” said O’Neill. “I think it is really funny.”

Not everyone is laughing, though, especially Plattsburgh State officials, who are reviewing the matter to determine whether any laws or college regulations were violated.

They learned about the porn video when the college newspaper, Cardinal Points, broke the story on Friday.

“We can’t dictate moral standards for others, but the college does not condone use of our students by this sector of the video industry,” said Keith Tyo, who said he has notified college President Dr. John Ettling, who is out of town, about the video.

“Basically, the whole thing is, it is sad, because it is going to do exactly what the video-entertainment business wants to do, and that is to generate more publicity to increase sales of videos like this,” Tyo said.

The two-hour movie was filmed about a year ago at 177 Broad St., then known around campus as the “track house,” since some Plattsburgh State track and field athletes had lived there over the years.

The porn trailer, or preview, on the company’s Web site was two minutes long, and people the Press-Republican spoke with Friday said it featured students they recognized having unprotected sex with female porn stars as they were cheered on by their peers.

The video, available for sale online, features some of the students on the cover and states on the back that an “all-star porn cast” visited New York for “non-stop sex with college guys.”

It was made by Shane’s World Productions, which has been featured by MTV, Rolling Stone, CNN and USA Today for its “College Invasion” series. The Plattsburgh film is volume 10.

Numerous Press-Republican e-mails and phone calls to Shane’s World Productions seeking comment were not returned.

“University Police is reviewing the matter to determine if any laws or college regulations were violated,” Tyo said.

According to an article in USA Today, early last year California State University suspended a fraternity after members admitted to participating in a Shane’s World movie at an off-campus location.

Many Plattsburgh State students interviewed Friday said their classmates did nothing wrong by appearing in the porn film.

“I hope the college doesn’t try to get them in trouble,” O’Neill said.

“People say they should be punished, but that is crazy,” said junior Kara Strang. “It is not illegal.”

She said it was funny watching the trailer and recognizing some of the students.

“I see one of the kids all the time.”

No one answered the door at 177 Broad St.

Strang said the students were paid $500 each and were tested for sexually transmitted diseases before being allowed to participate in the film. The porn stars are also apparently tested monthly.

Tyo said Plattsburgh State health counselors are available to speak with students and urged those who participated in the film to be tested for sexually transmitted diseases.

“Who is to say they haven’t caught something since being tested or had sex the night before making the film?” said junior Lindsey Parent.

She heard about the movie from a friend and watched the trailer, which she described as disgusting and disturbing. She tends bar at the Monopole and sometimes sees the young men featured in the film.

“I think it will ruin their reputation. I think they should have more self respect for themselves in the future.”

Parent’s friend, senior Kassie Fenn, thinks the issue should be addressed on campus, especially what she perceives as the objectification of women.

“It is absolutely nasty.”

But other students disagreed.

“I thought it was hilarious,” said junior Aimee Chauvot.

She knew one of the students in the film, who has since transferred to another college. The move was unrelated to the film.

She heard last year that a production crew was looking for students to participate in the porn film and admitted the trailer was a little weird to watch.

“They are local celebrities.”
