Connecticut Supreme Court rules in sex shop legality

Connecticut- The Connecticut Supreme Court has ruled in favor of some restrictions on sexually oriented businesses in the town of Berlin.

The high court says Berlin can restrict sexually oriented business from opening near a residential neighborhood.

The high court’s ruling Monday comes a month after hearing arguments from attorneys representing the town and VIP, an adult novelty store.

Town officials contend the ordinance is a way to control the adult business that have popped up in recent years. The ordinance bars adult-themed businesses from being within 250 feet of a residentially zoned area.

VIP ran into town opposition when it wanted to turn a former furniture store into an adult business. VIP has similar stores in Manchester, Hartford and Orange.
