Porn Valley- I was chatting with Stoney Curtis the other day. We were talking about his new website, www.pornstarperformance.com. I’m loving the site which basically rats out flakey porn stars and gives an attaboy to the good ones. But it’s the inherent snitch factor that lends the site its wonderful, train wreck aspect, although I don’t think this is Curtis’ main intention.
“After 12 years of booking talent, I figured if producers could all get together and communicate with each other,” Curtis continues, “we might be able to weed out the people that aren’t taking the business serious and the ones who do.” The idea behind the site, says Curtis, is to reward the ones who do. “And the people can take their chances with the ones who don’t.”
Prior to this site launching, said, Curtis, the porno grapevine was the only means the industry had to communicate. But now, in just a short time, it’s had some positive results. “A couple of agents that were not really bringing girls by and not really caring at all, are starting to call people back better,” says Curtis. “And they’re bringing girls to interviews and it’s working out pretty well.”
Curtis concedes that his is not a new idea though he seems to be the one stepping up to the plate with it. “I’ve heard people talking about this for years,” he says. “I just said, fuck it. I’m just going to do it. I want it for myself if for anybody. It’s already helped me a lot. There’s a little bit of a repercussion for not showing up or calling.” Asked if he’s received any fall out, Curtis says he wouldn’t know why if there was. Gee whiz.
“All I did was build the site and put it out there,” states Curtis. “It’s up to everybody else to have it out. What happens is somebody will get mad about somebody who posted something. But the person who posts can’t hide behind an alias. They have to stand by their word whereas a lot of sites, people just write shit and talk shit and never say who they are. It’s a weasely way of getting your message across, and we don’t allow that. If you’ve got something to say about somebody, just say it and deal with it. So I’m not getting too much shit. I’m just the guy showing up with your mail.”
Curtis has personally written about a few people. “But none of them are mad at me,” he claims. “They’ve actually called and apologized to say they won’t do it again. Because I don’t attack personally. I keep it professional. They were booked at this time, they didn’t show up, this is the deal, have a nice day. I don’t go this f’n piece of shit. I don’t do that because that’s not business and I’m trying to run business.”
Curtis maintains that his is not a gossip site. “We’re trying to keep it more, hey, this is what’s going on.” Likewise, he’d be damned thrilled if he could get all the porn producers on board with the program.
“I think that the industry needs it real bad,” he says. “There’s just so many people that waste everybody’s time. And it’s not fair. We have the cash, and we’re ready to spend it. But for people to leave us hanging, it’s not right.” Curtis particularly feels sorry for the companies shooting features. “It’s real bad for them. I shoot gonzo. If a chick don’t show up I’ve got one day and try to get another girl. But when you have five scenes and dialogue, it’s brutal.”
