Pennsylvania- from www.post-gazette.com – Murrysville police said that an adult book store robbery last week, in which an employee was handcuffed to a computer stand, was staged.
Kurtis Edward Helbing, 21, of Turtle Creek, faces felony charges of theft and receiving stolen property and misdemeanor charges of criminal mischief and unsworn falsification to authorities, according to a police news release.
Police charged Dana Marie Tielsch, 35, of Turtle Creek with unsworn falsification.
Police said Mr. Helbing stole just over $2,000 cash, $18,000 in merchandise and caused about $4,000 in damage to the store.
Ms. Tielsch knowingly reported a false crime, police said.
Police responded to a call at Murrysville Video & News Adultmart on Route 22 about 3:24 a.m. July 18 and found Mr. Helbing chained to the computer stand.
Mr. Helbing told police he was robbed by two males wearing black masks and black gloves and brandishing handguns after closing the store.
He said the men handcuffed him, forced him to turn off the power, poured water on the computer and smashed the store’s video cameras.
Mr. Helbing told police the men stole merchandise and cash from the safe and cash boxes.
Ms. Tielsch, who had called police to the scene, told officers she saw the men leave the store in a dark colored truck when she was arriving to give Mr. Helbing a ride home.
Police reviewed the store’s surveillance video and concluded that Mr. Helbing staged the robbery, the release said.
