North Carolina- Lincoln County officials are taking steps to prevent a Denver bar from hosting an adult entertainment party Saturday night that would include lap dancing in an “explosive sexual atmosphere.”
Shooter’s Bar and Grill, across from Rock Springs Elementary School on North Highway 16, plans to host what is called an “Aahz Party,” where only “open-minded lifestyle” couples or single-women would be allowed to attend.
“Open-minded lifestyles” is a phrase often used to describe couples who share partners.
County zoning laws prohibit adult entertainment at the location, and that is one angle officials are likely to use in attempting to ban the event.
Lincoln County Building and Land Development Director Kelly Atkins said that he, county manager George Wood, county attorney Jeff Taylor and zoning administrator Randy Hawkins met Monday night and plan to go to court to seek a temporary restraining order prohibiting Shooter’s from hosting the event.
In addition to the zoning issue, Atkins said that free alcohol is being advertised, and that is a violation of state law.
“Hopefully, the doors won’t open,” he said.
This may not be the first time Shooter’s has had a similar party.
“After such wonderful reviews from everyone at the last Shooters party, AAHZ / PS has teamed up with them to host a PS Style Meet & Greet on Saturday, September 20th starting at 8 p.m.,” a website promoting the event states. . . Remember what happens at Aahz, stays at Aahz!” “Leave your inhibitions at home…a party experience you will never forget. . . .no panties required,” the website proclaims. “We are not bad people, we just like to have a little more fun than the others.”
The website stated that “no vanillas” would be admitted.
“Vanillas” is a word used to describe people who believe in standard or conventional sexual behavior.
Word of the planned adult party began spreading in Denver last weekend, and when an unnamed preacher got wind of it, he mentioned it to Denver Fire Chief Jay Flynn who notified the county, according to Atkins.
In addition to what is being billed as a “Slutty School Girl Lap Dance contest,” the website states that at midnight “Angie’s Famous Bar Shots will be served with the first round free to everyone.”
Zoning Administrator Hawkins said that he spoke Tuesday morning with George Iremiciuc of Rock Springs Shopping Center LLC, owner of the building that houses Shooters and told him of the impending legal action.
“He was very cooperative. He said he didn’t want this (the party) to occur,” said Hawkins.
Iremiciuc then called Todd Owen, owner of Shooters, and “I assume he instructed him not to hold the event,” said Hawkins.
An irate Owen then called Hawkins and “he told me it was a private party and a clean party, and that he had consulted with an attorney himself.”
County Attorney Jeff Taylor was preparing a case against Shooters on Tuesday and was planning to get a hearing before a judge as soon as possible.
Owen said Tuesday morning that the county “is trying to legislate morallity,” and said the party – if it occurs – will be completely legal.
“The churches and the community are having a problem. . . they can’t separate the lifestyle of the people attending from the actual events of the party itself,” he said.
“There will be absolutely nothing illegal going on on the premises,” he said, everyone will be “fully clothed,” and the “slutty school girl lap dancing contest” is no longer planned. He said Shooters would fully comply with state alcohol regulations.
County Commissioner Bruce Carlton of Denver, who learned about the planned event on Monday, was point-blank in his criticism of Shooters:
“The further out of town we can run these guys the better off Denver is.”
