BECKLEY, W.Va. – A federal judge has sentenced a Greenbrier County couple to prison in an Internet pornography case.
U.S. District Judge David Faber on Friday sentenced Michael J. Corbett to 18 months in prison, a $30,000 fine and three years of supervised release. He had pleaded guilty in August to one count of mailing obscene material.
Corbetts ex-wife, Sharon Bates, was sentenced to 13 months in prison, a $10,000 fine and three years of probation. She had pleaded guilty in August to a similar count.
The case involved the Web site girlspooping.com through which the Corbett and Bates sold videotapes and digital video discs that depicted sexually explicit scenes of defecation and urination.
Faber also sentenced two other defendants, Joseph Tanner and Randall Rogers of Quitman, Ga., for their role in maintaining the Web site.
Tanner will spend 13 months in prison and pay a $20,000 fine, while Rogers was sentenced to three years probation. Faber cited both Rogers minor role in the crime and a physical condition that confines him to a wheelchair.
I think the guidelines for this crime were extremely lenient, Faber told Corbett. The court, quite frankly, is appalled at the nature of material here. … Its dehumanizing and demeaning.
