Several days ago sex writer Violet Blue wrote an article insinuating that Hardcore Gossip had plagiarized an article about photographer Roy Stuart. DCypher responds.
Porn Valley- DCypher posts on www.hardcoregossip.com: It was Thursday night slash Friday morning. It was getting late. I was still packing for my weekend away from Porn Valley.
I was posting a bunch of stuff on this site for Friday so that no one would notice that I had stolen away to the beach early, that I had literally gone Sideways. I wasn’t planning on checking my emails or any of the sites all weekend.
I had cruised Roy Stuart’s site and collected some pictures from his newest book, but I needed something more. I had recently become enamored with his work and was glad that I would have a chance to promote him on HCG. I Googled him and found a bunch of links about his first two seminal works, which I couldn’t well ignore.
I was desperately in need of a drink. It had been a long but productive day. I was tired of staring at the computer screen. I was sick of writing for the day.
I snatched some uncredited text from Taschen’s site and slapped it together, then hit another site, Spectator, and found the most amazing review of his first two works that I felt needed to be included. I pieced the two together, not knowing the eminent danger I was in, and forgot to include source links…posting my daily photographic artist introduction with not a thought in the world as to the kinds of tragic repercussions that were to follow.
I drank Captain Morgan’s and Coke, happy with the way the page looked, comfortable that I could leave for a weekend and that everything was dealt with. So content was I that I didn’t even bother to check my email the next day before driving off to Santa Barbara and beyond…a great and quiet oblivion of peace awaiting me.
Alas to my chagrin when I returned late Sunday night, sorting through countless spam offers for a bigger dick and a nice Rolex, I found a strange email fromJonno @ Fleshbot Dot Com that set some bells off. Later while surfing through ADULT FYI even more bells were set off by accusations that I was “fudging” my posts…After clicking through a maze of links I found the original blog entry from Violet Blue accusing me of being far less than original that had started this whole thing.
Luke Ford even went as far as to call me an outright plagiarist on his site.
Could I really have become embroiled, yet again, in such a petty tempest of triviality over something so seemingly innocuous? Sadly the answer was yes. Apparently Violet Blue, the sex blogger, (not the hot young porn chick with the sweet butterfly tattoo), took great umbrage at my lack of source credit, for what reason I’ll never know, and chose to blast me over it. She never even bothered to email me over the matter.
I suppose the road to Hell really is paved with good intentions after all, and that, despite being told for the last two years that I need to not take what I do so seriously since it’s “only porn,” that I should be very careful how I present things in the future.
As I posted in Nina’s blog I wish that Violet Blue might have had a word with me before making such a Federal case out of this.
Nevertheless, the posting on HCG came from both Taschen (lower half) and Spectator (the part Violet is upset about), and I am sorry that I did not give them both proper credit.
At no point did I mean to insinuate that I had written either piece. I can see now that it probably looked that way, but it wasn’t intended. After all, I didn’t sign it with my name on the bottom, as I most usually do when I write something. I was simply looking for a fast way to promote an artist I had just discovered because I was enamored with his work.
Live and learn, and move the hell on…I guess…
Here are the two links I so fortuitously exploited for my own designs…sans credit and crack pipe…

And thanks to Violet Blue for keeping this tawdry underworld of porn gossip blogging on the straight and narrow and reminding me that it all really, really matters…
