Porn Valley- Two months ago, the original film negative to Deep Throat, www.xxxdeepthroat.com was found in a garage, missing for nearly 30 years – still in pristine condition. Along with it was the original theatrical trailer, of which no other copies are known to have survived. These were transferred via High Definition Telecine, then authored to High Def DVD format by High Def Guru Tom Funk of High Def Home Entertainment.
High Definition has been a growing buzz word for the past couple of years, and many studios have labeled their titles “Shot in High Definition”. But only a very few titles have actually been released in High Definition. As of last month, High Def Home Entertainment not only started to release the first of their High Def DVD titles, they’re also now shipping the first and only High Def DVD players in the U.S., retailing at only $249 – very affordable for anyone who’s purchased an HDTV. These players are available on www.HighDefXXX.com.
The High Def DVD titles actually include both the High Def and standard def versions, so it’s not restricted to only those with HDTV and players – the regular NTSC version can still be watched on any DVD player. Further, the High Def version can actually be viewed on a PC (running at least at 2.4GHz or so) – in stunning quality.
Although there are additional High Def formats upcoming, these are now in Windows Media 9 format. This offers the same quality as MPEG2 (which is used for cable and satellite HDTV), but at 1/3 the bit-rate, allowing full HD to fit onto a standard red-laser disc.
On Sunday, November 13, Arrow and HDHE are having a Release Party in Hollywood to show off the title and the technology. (www.DeepThroatHD.com for industry RSVP’s.)
The party is also being co-sponsored by Adult DVD Empire. They will of course be offering Deep Throat HD on their site, plus will soon be offering High Def downloads as well.
In addition to Deep Throat, HDHE is releasing other High Def DVD titles, including High Def XXX: Volume 1 (the first ever adult High Def DVD – yes, before Island Fever 3); High Def Lesbians, Dreamcummers, Girls Gone Skiing (a adult feature), High Def Erotica (softcore) and more. Their productions are shot on the Panasonic Varicam or the Sony HDCam, for full HD quality.
Unfortunately the HDV cameras (“mini-HD”) that are semi-popular now – allowing people to say they shoot in High Definition – lack the quality to allow the titles to actually be released in HD. However, there are newer (affordable) options coming in December from Panasonic and Canon that should allow for good final consumer delivery in HD.
