Porn Valley- Up until now Dodger pitcher Derek Lowe has been cheating on his wife, Trinka, in a secret affair that’s been going on at least since spring training. But now it’s public. It’s being reported that Lowe has been fucking around with Carolyn Hughes [pictured], a reporter who’s with the Fox Sports Network.
According to Trinka Lowe, Hughes and Lowe will be putting out the story that Lowe’s marriage fell apart and that they were friends consoling one another. Trinka Lowe says this is not the truth that Lowe just decided to walk out on her and now he’s filing divorce papers.
Hughes already took the first steps when she left her husband. And Trinka Lowe says that the Los Angeles Dodgers have been fully aware of Lowe’s relationship with Hughes and looked the other way.
Meanwhile anchor-reporter Hughes has been taken off Dodger coverage at Fox Sports West during an investigation of her relationship with Lowe. Neither Lowe nor Hughes have commented, but Lowe’s wife Trinka tipped Fox about her husband having an affair with Hughes and staying overnight at her place in Manhattan Beach. Trinka says “he wanted me gone when he came back from the next road trip.” The Lowes have sold their Beverly Hills home and Trinka has moved back to Florida. Hughes also hosts the Dodgers pregame show, “Dodgers Dugout.”
The Lowe’s have three children including one from Trinka’s previous marriage.
Trinka Lowe was on KLSX 97.1 Monday afternoon talking to Tom Leykis. Lowe said when she talked to Fox they told her they were conducting an investigation.
“I thought they would tell me what they found,” said Lowe. “I told them what I knew. She admitted that he was living with her. I don’t know what else they needed to investigate. But they never called me or followed up with me in any way. The Dodgers also stick their head in the sand and pretend like it’s not there. You know the guys on the team all know.”
Asked if she was in touch with any of the other wives on the team, Trinka Lowe said she became friends with Dana Kent. “My seats were right next to hers and she’s the only person I became friendly with and she’s the only person that I’ve spoken with about this. I wasn’t here that long when it all started to happen. I didn’t establish a close relationship with any of them.”
Lowe said she still maintains close relationships with some of the wives on the Red Sox.
“And I’ve spoken with my friends all over about what’s happening,” said Lowe. “Because I need help to try to get through this. I feel like Derek needs help. I call everyone to pray for us and pray for him that this can be sorted out in a way that’s best for our family.” Lowe said her days are horrible that she wakes up in the morning missing her husband. “I go to sleep at night missing my husband. All day I look at our children and just think how can he miss out on these precious little lives.” Lowe said she was hurting so much all alone.
“He has her [Hughes],” Trinka said. “He’s not hurting. They go out drinking every night and doing whatever- the newness of the relationship is- and he doesn’t feel the pain that I do. It’s very difficult. I miss him so much and just the thought of him divorcing me sometimes is just unbearable.”
Asked what life was like last October compared to now, Lowe said everything was wonderful but noted that the Red Sox weren’t going to let Derek Lowe pitch in the playoffs at all. “He had been sent to the bullpen- he had been demoted, taken out of the starting rotation.”
Trinka Lowe said she just threw herself into supporting husband during that time. “Whatever he needed to get through that difficult time- things just worked out and he was able to pitch and pitch well. And they won. It was the most magical time.” Trinka said the off season was wonderful as well.
“We went to Las Vegas- he played in the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic. We had a wonderful time there together. Spring Training was great. I put the kids in the car every weekend and drove over to visit him in Vero Beach. We rented a home over there and everything was wonderful. This is why it’s such a blow to me and such a shock and why I knew something else was going on. It wasn’t just all of a sudden, I’m unhappy. I knew he wouldn’t go somewhere without someone else to go to. He wouldn’t leave for no reason. I knew he had a reason. I found what it was. I found his old cellphone from March. We got new phones through the Dodgers in April and her number was in that under the name Jeff. This started in Spring Training. She came home from Spring Training telling her husband that she was tempted by someone in Spring Training. In April when she thought she had my husband pretty much under control, she left her husband.”
Other than when their children were born, Trinka Lowe said this was the best time of their lives. “We were very happy.” Trinka said she would nag Lowe about his golfing. “Typical wife stuff- it’s not like we never argue or we never squabble. We’re just like everybody else in the world. But this was nothing to bring you to the point of divorce. And he never said anything before- the end of June, the beginning of July that he was unhappy. It was never mentioned. If he were so unhappy why didn’t he tell me before I moved the children and everything out to California? It was never mentioned.”
The Lowes bought a house in Beverly Hills and Leykis said it sounded like the dream of every woman who was listening to he program. Trinka Lowe said the baseball dream wasn’t that big of deal to her. “My biggest happiness came from my husband and my children.” Lowe said baseball’s a wonderful blessing and makes it so you can afford things. “But it’s also a very hard life because you spend a lot of time apart. And then you have people like this woman who are trying to cash in on that for themselves.”
Asked if she thought Hughes was trying to cash in, Lowe said she’s heard from several sources that this is her pattern. “She’s been kind of looking for someone…I don’t know. I’m not her. I don’t know her motives. But she’s now going to be living in an $8,000 a month three-story home on the beach, where now she’s in a one bedroom apartment. Her life’s going to improve a little from being around my husband.” Lowe didn’t think that field reporters like Hughes made a lot of money. “From speaking with her husband I know she doesn’t make a lot of money. I think she drives like a Nissan. It’s not like she’s living the high life as far as I know.”
Lowe said she wished her husband would wake up and slow down a bit and realize what he was losing. Lowe also said she loved her husband and was willing to work their problems out. “We have a history together. We have a love together and we have three children together.”
Leykis predicted that Fox Sports, the Dodgers and representatives of her husband and Hughes would contact her and tell her to stop giving interviews. Lowe said when she contacted Fox she didn’t feel it was right for Hughes to be going after players. “And yes maybe my husband went after her, too. But she should have said no. he’s married and she’s married. Number two it’s her job and I don’t think it’s an appropriate relationship. If you cover the president of the United States are you supposed to have an affair with him if you’re a news reporter? If Derek pitches poorly and she’s in love with him, what’s she going to say when she goes on TV? Is she going to rip him for pitching poorly? What happens if he breaks up with her and she goes on TV. Is she going to rip him for breaking up with her?”
