The series incorporated "full-throttle action spectacle with sword fights, betrayals," and a main character who combines "Jackie Chan’s martial artistry with a thirst for vengeance worthy of the Bride, Uma Thurman’s memorable assassin character in 'Kill Bill'." Reid underwent months of preparation, including a "crash course in fight choreography," and faced the challenge of maintaining "villain energy through long days of stunts and sex."

The storyline of "Deadly Vows" involves Sarah being betrayed and left for dead by her sister, Ellen, and an ex-lover. She is then brought back by a "mysterious martial arts mentor" who teaches her to fight, survive, and use her rage as a weapon. Sarah finds allies in Christie and Smoke as she prepares to confront Ellen’s "crew of merciless enforcers" on Ellen’s wedding day, leading to a confrontation involving "bullets, blades, insults."
