Toronto – from www.network.nationalpost.com – A Scarborough elementary school teacher has been charged with sexually assaulting a 15-year-old boy he met at his part-time job at a downtown adult novelty store.
Shawn Carr, 31, struck up a conversation with the boy after he came into the store on Wednesday, Nov. 25, at 10 p.m., said Toronto police Const. Tony Vella.
“Mr. Carr then asks the boy if he wants to go back to his house. Shortly after that, the boy agreed,’’ said Const. Vella.
The boy was assaulted at the home, which was not far from the store, said Const. Vella. Mr. Carr has been charged with both sexual assault and sexual interference, meaning there are issues of age and consent involved.
Mr. Carr is also a supply teacher at Oakridge Junior Public School, near Danforth and Victoria Park avenues, said Anna Caputo, a communications officer with the Toronto District School Board.
‘‘He’s placed on home assignment … pending the outcome of the matter,’’ said Ms. Caputo.
Const. Vella said the incident was reported to police the same day. Ms. Caputo said Mr. Carr was arrested on Monday at his home.
A letter was sent home to parents yesterday, noting ‘‘Mr. Carr recently joined our school’’ and ‘‘the safety of our students is a top priority at Oakridge Jr. PS.’’
Oakridge serves children from kindergarten to Grade 5.
Const. Vella said adult stores are restricted to those over 18, so the boy should not have been in the store. He would not elaborate beyond saying the store is ‘‘downtown.’’
