Joy Media Group sales VP David Peskin noted that the DVD reorders for "Safe Word" have been consistent, with some retailers placing orders in quantities not seen in years. Peskin described the title as a "winner at every level," citing the acting performances, writing, erotic and intense sex, and overall production value. He added that the sales numbers indicate consumer appreciation for the movie.

Peskin characterized "Safe Word" as a cinematic, explicit, adult DVD that explores fantasy and desire through various BDSM scenes. "Safe Word" was written by Almudena Monzu and stars Mona Wales, Mickey Mod, Nina Hartley, Julia Roca, Sara Brown, and Personaje. The feature has garnered eight award nominations.
