Ex Porn Scribe Cuts Book Deal

Detroit- In an era where practically everyone’s writing a book, a woman who claims to be an ex porn writer has written a fictional account of her life in the adult industry titled “My Life Uncovered.”
Lynn Isenberg, 44, reputedly wrote such porn scripts as “Maui Heat”; “KSEX” and “Blondage” but obviously under a different name. She also claims to have written award-winning porn.

Her only goal, according to Isenberg, was to write good screenplays with lively dialogue and characters you’d care about, she tells the Detroit News. But Isenberg, who apparently doesn’t mind making a buck off the adult industry, is quick to point out that she is more than a former adult movie writer. “It was a small percentage of my life. Maybe three years.”

Isenberg is an alumnus of both Bloomfield Hills Andover High and the University of Michigan, and her book was launched last month in L.A. In Los Angeles, her friends decorated crackers with goat cheese and roasted red peppers. The peppers were arranged in big red Xs.

Isenberg got interested in writing in third grade when her short story won a prize. Post-college, she moved west and had a succession of movie industry jobs. At one point, she was a story analyst. Later, she was assistant to the head of the motion picture literary department at a major talent agency.

The actor, Don Cheadle, apparently threw her some advice. “Follow your dreams,” he said, so Isenberg quit her job, bought an option on a book, threw herself into the screenplay and became broke. Scuffling for work in the early ’90s, she called a friend who was with the Playboy Channel. He told her to send him a few movie ideas.

“We’re making this one,” he said the next day. “Things Change” written by Isenberg got nominated for an award. Eventually Isenberg moved on to more mainstream jobs, then started work on the fictional “My Life Uncovered.” The heroine, Laura Taylor, bears no small resemblance to Isenberg, she says. Being a fictional character, she can go places Isenberg never did, like the set of her X-rated movies.

“I couldn’t write fast enough to keep up with the ideas pouring out,” she says.

Isenberg sent her manuscript to Red Dress Ink, and the company responded with a two-book contract. Red Dress, a division of Harlequin, publishes what the industry calls “Chick Lit” – smart, contemporary fiction aimed at women in their 20s and 30s.
