From www.brisbanetimes.com[ Former internet porn king Greg Lasrado has lost an appeal for more time to fight a dangerous driving conviction.
Lasrado was convicted on December 12 last year of dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm while under the influence of a prescription drug.
The Queensland Court of Appeal was told Lasrado had been observed driving erratically along the Southeast Freeway at Mount Gravatt in his black Lamborghini sports car in February 2005.
A witness saw Lasrado, whose personalised number plate was “INSANE”, travel closely to the car in front on a number of occasions, slow down and then change lanes.
Just before the crash, Lasrado veered into the far right-hand lane behind the victim’s car, before moving into the emergency lane, in an attempt to overtake it.
He collided with the car, which flipped and slid across other lanes on the freeway.
A witness said it appeared Lasrado was driving faster than 100km/h.
The driver of the other vehicle had her seat-belt on, but her head scraped along the bitumen surface.
Lasrado is serving a two-year jail term and is due for parole on August 11.
He had been using prescription drugs, including the anti-anxiety drug Alprazolam and after the crash police and ambulance officers said Lasrado appeared intoxicated.
Lasrado was disqualified from driving for four years, a result he also wished to challenge.
The Court of Appeal dismissed his application for more time to appeal the conviction.
In making his decision, Justice James Douglas said there were “no reasonable prospects of a successful appeal against the sentence”.
Lasrado had a significant traffic history, including eight speeding convictions before the offence and five after his licence was suspended.
He made millions from online pornography in the 1990s and bought a number of ritzy properties in Brisbane and on the Gold Coast before losing his fortune in disputes with his bank.
