WESTBOROUGH, Mass. — from www.dailyvoice.com – Ron Jeremy, writer, reality TV persona and star of more than 1,500 adult films, pressed the flesh with his fans at a meet-and-greet at Julio’s Liquors in Westborough on Friday.
Jeremy signed bottles and shirts and posed for photographs, but also took time to answer a couple of calls from old friends.
“It’s like a reunion from ‘The Surreal Life,'” Jeremy said, referencing the VH1 reality show in which he starred. “I’m meeting up with Tracy Bingham and I just got a call from Corey Feldman.”
Also known as “The Hedgehog” for his stout, rotund appearance, Jeremy was at Julio’s to promote his brand of rum, Ron de Jeremy. Marketed as “The Adult Rum,” the beverage is blended in Panama by distiller Francisco “Don Pancho” Fernandez.
Jeremy’s fame and/or notoriety may spark interest in higher-end rum. However, in order for Ron de Jeremy to keep selling, the product has to be of good quality, said Julio’s owner and president Ryan Maloney.
Ben Spellman of Westborough had Jeremy sign his “Ghostbusters” DVD, in which Jeremy can be seen as an uncredited extra. Spellman also said he enjoys rum, especially blending his own “bacon rum,” which consists of mixing rum with cooled bacon grease and draining the mixture through a coffee filter, eliminating most of the goop and infusing the rum with bacon-y goodness.
Laura Fogarty of Hopkinton, who was one of the first in a long line of admirers, called the meeting a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”
Said Steve Pawlina of Auburn, “We came to see the man, the myth, the legend.”
That legend has been featured in several main-stream films, including “The Boondock Saints” and “Ronin,” in addition to his adult works, the likes of which include “I Know Who You Did Last Summer” and “Very Very Bad Santa.”
Jeremy said he has no plans to retire. “Slow down? You’ve got the wrong man for that,” he said.
